  • 1 tablespoon Sugar balances acidity from the tomatoes

  • 4 cups Shredded Mozzarella Cheese melts beautifully and provides that gooey texture
  • 1 cup Grated Parmesan Cheese adds a savory, nutty flavor on top
For the Lasagna Structure
  • 12 pieces Lasagna Noodles (cooked) can be substituted with gluten-free noodles or thin vegetables like zucchini
  • 1 bunch Fresh Parsley (optional) for garnish and freshness

Equipment

  • large skillet
  • Mixing Bowl
  • baking dish

Method

Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef and Italian sausage until no longer pink, about 7-10 minutes. Drain any excess fat.
  3. Add the diced onions and minced garlic to the skillet, sauté for about 3-4 minutes until the onion is translucent.
  4. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, sugar, dried basil, salt, and black pepper. Simmer on low heat for about 30 minutes.
  5. In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, 2 cups of mozzarella, and 1/2 cup of Parmesan cheese. Stir until smooth and creamy.
  6. In a baking dish, layer a thin layer of meat sauce, followed by 4 cooked lasagna noodles, one-third of the ricotta mixture, more meat sauce, and 1 cup of mozzarella. Repeat the process, finishing with sauce and remaining cheeses on top.
  7. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 25 minutes, or until cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
  8. Let the lasagna rest for 10-15 minutes before slicing. Optionally sprinkle with fresh parsley.
