Ingredients

For the Cod
  • 4 fillets Cod The star of the dish; tender and flaky, perfect for soaking up the ginger and soy flavors.
  • 1 tablespoon Fresh Ginger Adds warmth and spice; grate it for a more intense flavor.
For the Marinade
  • 1/4 cup Low-Sodium Soy Sauce Provides rich umami flavor; choose tamari if looking for gluten-free option.
  • 2 tablespoons Honey A natural sweetener that balances the marinade's saltiness; maple syrup works for a vegan alternative.
  • 1 tablespoon Lemon Juice Adds a bright acidity; lime juice can also be used for a zesty twist.
For the Topping
  • 2 tablespoons Green Onions Fresh garnish adding color and a slight crunch; regular onions can substitute.
  • 1 tablespoon Toasted Sesame Seeds Impart a nutty flavor and crunch; feel free to use chopped nuts for added texture.

Equipment

  • Mixing Bowl
  • Baking Sheet
  • Skillet

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Gather all your ingredients and prepare your workspace for cooking.
  2. In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together low-sodium soy sauce, honey, grated fresh ginger, and lemon juice until well combined. Set aside half of the marinade to brush on later.
  3. Place cod fillets in a shallow dish and pour half of the marinade over them, allowing to marinate for 15 to 30 minutes at room temperature.
  4. Arrange the marinated cod on a greased baking sheet and brush the remaining marinade on top. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes until cooked through.
  5. Toast sesame seeds in a dry skillet over medium heat for 2 to 3 minutes until golden. This adds a nutty crunch to the dish.
  6. After baking, serve the cod on plates, drizzled with leftover marinade and garnished with sliced green onions and toasted sesame seeds.
