For Frying
  • 1 cup Frying Oil Vegetable/canola/coconut/avocado oil recommended.

Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, salt, and baking powder. Incorporate shortening if using, then gradually add water to form a slightly sticky dough.
  2. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for 3-4 minutes until smooth. Cover and rest for 30 minutes to 2 hours.
  3. In a pot, heat oil to 350°F (176°C). Test temperature with a small piece of dough.
  4. Divide dough into 6-8 pieces and roll each into circles about 1/4 inch thick.
  5. Fry each circle in hot oil for 2-3 minutes until golden brown. Flip and fry the other side.
  6. Remove from oil and drain on paper towels. Serve warm with taco fillings or drizzled with honey.
