Tiramisu: The Classic Italian Dessert

– 24 ladyfingers
– 2 tablespoons cocoa powder


1. In a medium saucepan, whisk together egg yolks and sugar until well combined. Add milk and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture thickens and coats the back of a spoon. Remove from heat and let cool.

2. In a large bowl, beat heavy cream and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.

3. In another bowl, beat mascarpone cheese until smooth. Fold in the cooled egg yolk mixture until well combined. Then, fold in the whipped cream until the mixture is smooth and creamy.

4. In a shallow dish, combine coffee and rum. Dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture and arrange them in a single layer in a 9×13 inch dish.

5. Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers. Repeat with another layer of soaked ladyfingers and the remaining mascarpone mixture.

6. Cover the tiramisu with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or overnight.

7. Before serving, dust the top of the tiramisu with cocoa powder.
